About

~About me~ While earning a Master's Degree in clinical social work at New York University, I worked with various populations over the course of two years. This included working with at-risk youth at an after-school program, providing play therapy at a kindergarten and working with both biological mothers and adoptive families at an adoption agency. I returned to my home state of Maine in the Fall of 2014 and began working as a clinical social worker. My experience includes treating individuals with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, as well as individuals with perinatal mood disorders in both outpatient and residential settings. I have provided counseling to incarcerated individuals and collaborated with community supports, performed crisis/suicide assessments and facilitated evidenced-based groups such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy, social skills and Sexual Behavior Treatment to youth. Most recently I worked at a family medicine doctors office with individuals ranging from 12 to 80 years old. License & Cerifications LC17114 - LCSW, Maine Certification in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (C-DBT) ~Counseling Approach~ I view therapy as a collaborative process where we work together to identify your concerns, strengths and areas for personal growth. During our sessions I will provide you with professional guidance, support and with ways to consider how you can continue your work outside of our sessions. Most of your personal efforts toward your goals may be accomplished between our sessions. The process of psychotherapy can, at times, be uncomfortable. Some of what we discuss may feel upsetting, increase your anxiety or adversely affect your mood. You may also experience discomfort or resistance from people in your life who have been accustomed to dynamics that are now changing as a result of your personal growth and change. Although there are no guarantees of specific outcomes from therapy, research indicates therapy can be helpful in bringing about positive change. Some factors which contribute to the likelihood of these positive outcomes include your motivation to change, open communication between you and your therapist, respect and understanding from your therapist and attending sessions regularly. My approach to therapy incorporates mindfulness, self-compassion and evidence-based techniques to help clients transform their relationship with painful experiences and express the strengths they often overlook in themselves. A strong therapeutic relationship can help clients explore challenging relational patterns in their lives, deepen self-awareness and realize the change they are seeking. I offer individual therapy for people age 10 and older. I am specialized in treating adolescents and adults. I provide individual therapy to adolescents and adults with a wide range of clinical concerns, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, relationship issues, trauma, and perinatal mental health. ~~~~~~ I believe in finding the right fit in order to build a trusted therapeutic relationship. My approach is collaborative, easy-going, non-judgmental, and supportive. I look forward to embarking on this journey with you.
